FALL 2020: Meet the Ohana Collection

Pumpkin picking...

Pumpkin spice latte's...

Sweater weather...

Nights by the fire pit...

Who doesn't love the fall??!!

I love our family pumpkin picking day followed by a big italian dinner together with our family. Lots of laughs and delicious food and pumpkin everything... it's one of our favorite family traditions that brings everyone together to just be together. No gifts. No special celebrations. Just be.

As a kid growing up in California, our family tradition looked a little different...

We spent every fall on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Oahu enjoying the sun and surf and exploring the island. Our home away from home. Growing up, my dad and I would go surfing often and mid-November through December is good surfing in Hawaii. We would fish, and go hike Diamond Back Mountain, and visit little towns and villages, watch some of the most extraordinary weddings take place on the most beautiful beaches in the world, eat tons of delicious food, and just be together as a family.

When I was 15, my dad passed away from Emphysema. He had been diagnosed when I was in the 7th grade and spent 24 hours a day on an oxygen tank and in bed for most of the time.

On Friday, November 22, 1996, I came home from school to ambulances at my house taking my dad to the emergency room. He had fallen into a coma and the hospice nurses who would come to take care of him while my mom was at work couldn't get him to respond. My mom spent the night at the hospital with my dad and I remember her coming home early in the morning, it felt like 3am, and she couldn't sleep, so she started cleaning. Early in the morning, we got a call to go to the hospital. By the time we arrived, he had passed away.

It's been more than 20 years, but I don't think I will forget how I felt, how he looked, holding his hand for the last time. He was my dad, my biggest fan, my protector, my hero... and he was gone.

Less than a week later, after his funeral, my mom, my sister and I went back to Hawaii... but this time was different... and not just because he had just passed away and wasn't with us... but it felt different. My dad has spent the previous 4 years suffering. He couldn't surf, couldn't stay out for long and one year he couldn't even go because he was so frail and sick. It was as if we went for the "tradition" of going but it wasn't the trip we had gone on when we were younger and he was healthy.

But this time...

This time was different, like he was with us, and it felt like home again. It felt like he was there as our guardian angel guiding our trip. We laughed about all the silly, crazy, over the top things he did, cried because of how much we missed him and memorialized him in the place he loved the most.

And it was what we needed to know he was at peace.

So... now that I've probably made you tear up and you're thinking, "What the heck, Kelly! What does this have to do with fall and pumpkins and sweater weather?"

Let me introduce you to our new FALL 2020 COLLECTION: OHANA

Ohana = family

This fall, I'm taking it back to my roots...

to where I started my love affair with the ocean...

to where I learned to surf...

to where I learned to make jewelry...

to where my family found our place of peace and rest.

This collection speaks to my roots... my why. From the long gemstone necklaces with clusters of charms & gemstones reminiscent of the sandy beaches and laid back island lifestyle of Hawaii, the simple Peso necklace representative of the first foreign currency my dad ever gave me, to the monstera leaf earrings, a beautiful plant that flooded my property growing up... Each piece is a symbol of what family, what Ohana means to me.

2020 has been one crazy heck of a ride. As we get ready to go into the season of Thanksgiving, I am thankful for my family, my husband's family, my friends who are like family and for all of you... my KELLYM family. I'm thankful for your support of my small business. I'm thankful that you allow me to be creative. I'm thankful for each and every note I receive saying how much you love your jewelry pieces. I'm thankful for each and every beautiful photo you tag us in showing off your jewels. I'm thankful for you... my ohana.

Thank you for all your love and support!
